About our Placement Process

Community Schools after school enrollment for the 2022-23 school year is currently closed.

Families who registered during the priority registration period were entered into a weighted registration pool but were not guaranteed enrollment. Students who have previously been enrolled in the Somerville Community Schools after school program or who have siblings who are currently enrolled were given first priority. Additional selections for the upcoming school year are made by considering a number of factors including current staffing levels, specific learning and behavioral needs of students already enrolled, and age/grade level. Some schools, grades, ages, and programs fill more quickly than others. We are always working to increase capacity in our programs, however staffing limitations continue to impact the after school field and we are committed to maintaining safe staffing ratios under our license with the Department of Early Education and Care.

For families still looking for after school child care, Somerville has several high-quality providers open to all youth. They offer programming at affordable rates. Some programs fill up quickly.
