Middle Grades CTE

This program is for all rising 6th-8th graders. Somerville High School CTE is offering career technical summer programs. Each program offers lots of fun, hands-on lessons and activities in a program of your choice.

Middle Grades Robotics

FULL: All applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
Explore engineering and robotics with high school students from the SHS Robotics Team. Learn how to use 3D printers, laser cutters, and vinyl cutters in the high school Fab Lab to make your robots even cooler.  This is a 1-week program.
Dates: July 10 -14 OR July 24 - 28

Summer Music Program

For rising 3rd-8th grade students. Two-week orchestra summer program. Classes include chamber music, improv, chorus, fiddle, technique, music theory, and orchestra rehearsals for woodwinds, brass, and string instruments. Beginners welcome. Breakfast and Lunch provided.

Summer Success 9th Grade Orientation

For rising 9th grade students who will attend Somerville High School in the fall. 2 week introduction (10 class meetings) that prepares students for success in high school. Topics include courses and extracurricular opportunities available, the layout of the new building, the high school class schedule, the Communities structure at SHS, as well as time management, self-advocacy, and an introduction to online platforms.

Dates and Times: There are 4 sessions to choose from. Register for the course that best fits your schedule.

The Calculus Project

The Somerville Calculus Project (TCP) supports Black and Latinx students as they develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of mathematics. This summer, rising 7th through 12th grade students will come together for a 4 week, in-person program that includes advanced math instruction, community building activities, fun field trips, enrichment clubs, and more.

Elementary SPELL

FULL: All applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
SPELL is a summer program for multilingual learners at the beginning stages of English. The SPELL program provides students with theme-based language learning experiences that develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Enrichment activities will be built in throughout the week. This program is by referral only by students' ESL teachers.
Dates: July 10 - August 4
Time: 8 am - 1 pm (extended day option available for students entering grade 3, 4, 5, or 6)

SomerSession

Research based intervention in reading and math for students combined with opportunities for project based learning and enrichment activities. Registration is by invitation through teacher referral.

Summer Explore

REGISTRATION CLOSED
Summer Explore is for rising kindergartners and first graders who benefit from an extended year to ensure school readiness. Includes developmentally appropriate academic learning, playtime, art, and physical movement. Registration is by invitation through teacher referral.

Summer of Yes

Hands-on, project-based STEAM activities range from rocketry to robotics, painting to PVC pipe structure building, and many other creative, engaging activities that put young people at the center of their learning. Featuring programming from Somerville Media Center, Parkour Generations Boston, DEILab, Somerville Arts for Youth, Parts and Crafts, and more. For students ages 7–13 with mild/moderate disabilities and/or behavioral/emotional needs, Black and Latino students, and/or students from low-income families.
