AFTERSCHOOL
There are many afterschool care programs located in our facilities and around Somerville. Learn more:
- SPS Afterschool Program: located at schools, fee-based, run by SPS
- El Sistema Afterschool Instrument Instruction Program: located at East Somerville Community School, fee-based, run by SPS
- Apollo Afterschool Program: located at schools, fee-based, run by a trusted vendor
- AfterSchool Clubs: located at schools, fee-based or free, run by a trusted vendor.
- Referral After School Programs: located at schools, no fee, students must be referred into the program by an SPS educator or administrator

SPS Afterschool Program
The SPS Afterschool (Community Schools) Program offers on-site aftercare for grades PK-6 at each elementary school. Students are offered a variety of hands-on enrichment activities, homework help, choice time, and a nutritious snack daily provided by the SPS Food and Nutrition Services Department. Our menu of options includes a wide variety of engaging clubs that complement the school curriculum. Club offerings vary by school and grade level. Examples of clubs are Gardening, Martial Arts, Hip Hop Dance, Big Builders, World Languages, Cooking, Trains, LEGO, Community Service, Yoga, Parkour, Rock Climbing.

If you are enrolling outside of the registration period or in grades 1 to 5, please call the OST office regarding availability of a seat for your child at 617-625-6600 x6970.
Program Details
- Follows the same school year calendar as Somerville Public Schools.
- The first day of Afterschool is the first day of school.
- Afterschool programming starts at the end of the school day.
- Students are dismissed from Afterschool between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m.
- There is no gap between school dismissal and Afterschool programming on early release Wednesdays.

El Sistema Instrument Afterschool Program
The El Sistema Somerville program is an innovative music and instrument instruction program and one of the options available to families looking for afterschool through Somerville Public Schools. The East Somerville Community School houses the program and it begins in mid-September. This program is run by the Somerville Public Schools Music Department (not Community Schools). Become an Afterschool Program Provider for SPS
Interested in teaching an enrichment activity? Individuals and community partners welcome! Send us your proposal for an academic or enrichment club; we will work with you to make sure it complements grade-level academic curriculum. Please fill out the Provider Packet. It includes a Proposal Form, Scope of Service Form, a W-9 Form and a CORI Form for all direct instructors. Read the Provider Handbook and Provider Timeline for schedule and deadline information.
