The Together campaign will feature a series of community events, in which students, parents, guardians, educators, other staff, and community members are invited to come together to learn and share ideas about how best to support our students during these difficult times.

SPS is looking for community feedback. Our Anti-Bullying Policy is going through a review process. Please read the SPS Anti-Bullying Policy (EnglishSpanishPortugueseHaitian Creole), then provide your feedback in the survey (EnglishSpanishPortuguese, or Haitian Creole). 

Youth Behavior Risk Survey

March 2023

Youth Behavior Risk Survey (YBRS) will be administered to middle school students in March, 2023. Grades 6-8 will participate. Responses gather student voice for mental health and social emotional behaviors. This data informs hiring practices and support systems for students.

Find a week of learning and ideas for your family around digital wellness, including resources for creating a family media plan and internet safety resources. Mental Health Roundtable Discussion (virtual):

“Working TOGETHER to Support our Students”

March 30, 2022, 6:00 p.m.

Representatives from the City of Somerville and the Somerville Public Schools will participate in a virtual roundtable discussion about challenges and solutions related to the social-emotional and mental health of our young people, particularly in the wake of Covid-19. Attendees will hear about findings from the Pulse Check health survey of more than 1,400 Somerville students from grades 6-12 and describe strategies in schools and in the community to help young people overcome stress, anxiety and other barriers to learning.

"Say Something" Virtual Assemblies

February 17, 2022 - Middle School

Through our partnership with Sandy Hook Promise, Somerville middle and high school students will participate in “Say Something” virtual assemblies, to learn how to recognize signs of students in distress. Counselors will be available after each assembly to provide follow-up support to individual students as needed.

March 29, 2022 - High School

LearnLaunch Workshop: “Strategies to Create a Positive School Culture” (virtual)

December 15, 16, or 17, 2021 (choose any one of three), Various times

On behalf of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, LearnLaunch provides virtual professional session workshops, free to any employee of a Massachusetts PK-12 school or district. “In this workshop you will consider ways to continue strengthening your school community’s positive culture in the midst of continued adjustment and response to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. When students return in January, schools have an opportunity to reinforce positive culture and support student well-being. Our highly interactive virtual workshop offers specific ‘look-fors’ as well as concrete trauma-informed strategies that leaders can put into practice to ensure students feel safe, both emotionally and physically; seen, by adults and by their peers; and soothed, meaning at ease and without heightened anxiety, while at school.”
