Where can I get information on how to use the online platforms and other information related to technology?

What do I do if I'm having trouble with my school Chromebook?

If you are having trouble with your device, please submit a request for support using this Somerville Public Schools Remote Tech Support Contact Form. SPS parents/students who need technology assistance in a language other than English should call 311 or email 311updates@somervillema.gov. A bilingual educator will contact you to assist you. Dial (617) 666-3311 if you are calling from a number outside of Somerville.

What do I do if I need help with wifi?

The SPS Technology Department has added a temporary helpdesk hotline to provide assistance Mondays-Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please call (617) 744-9781. If you need assistance in a language other than English, please call 311 or email 311updates@somervillema.gov. A bilingual educator will contact you to assist you. Dial (617) 666-3311 if you are calling from a number outside of Somerville.

Meals and Other Basic Resources

Where/when can I pick up breakfast/lunch?

Starting Monday, September 21st, SPS Food & Nutrition Services will distribute breakfasts and lunches Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the following schools. Parents and students can pick up meals at any site and should go to their most convenient location. Please note that we are not offering a Somerville High School site because of construction. SHS and Next Wave/Full Circle students can pick up at any neighborhood school.

Where can I learn about food assistance, diaper assistance, P-EBT, and other resources available to families?

Attendance, Grading and Testing

Do I need to report an absence during remote learning?

Yes. Parents/caregivers are asked to call the school sick line to report a student absence. School contact information to report a student absence can be found toward the bottom of each school’s website home page. After 3 days of consecutive absences due to sickness, parents/caregivers must submit a doctor's note electronically to the school office. 

Will my child's work be graded?

Assignments will be graded. Students at all grade levels will receive frequent constructive feedback from educators on synchronous and asynchronous work. In addition, students will receive feedback on their quarterly grade reports using traditional grading structures.

Will there be MCAS this year?

MCAS will be administered this year. We will advise families once we receive notification from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding test administration dates.

Student Health and Wellness

My child needs extra emotional support, what should I do?

We urge you to let your child’s teacher know if you feel that your child is struggling emotionally so that they can connect you with the school counselor for the appropriate support.

I have concerns about cyber-bullying, what do I do?

We encourage you to report any concerns or incidents regarding any type of bullying. You can do so in one of three ways:

  • Tell your teacher or another trusted adult at your school.

How do I sign my child up for free enrichment programming during this remote period?

Community Schools (pre-K and K) and Parks & Recreation (grades 1-8) will be offering free outdoor enrichment programming to provide students with opportunities for safe, social interaction starting September 21st based on their cohort assignment. This programming is weather dependent and all current health and safety guidelines including mandatory use of masks and social distancing will be in place. Space is limited.

What are the metrics for when school buildings will reopen?

The reopening of schools is based on a combination of factors including building ventilation mitigation efforts and the establishment of a virus testing plan. We are continuing to work with the City on those efforts.
