Somerville Back to School Plan
Planning for school re-entry in the fall of 2020 is ongoing through July in accordance with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's guidance and working in partnership with the City and Somerville Health and Human Services. The final plan is due to DESE on August 10th and will also be posted to this site. Along with DESE guidance, the plan will be informed by the most recent health guidelines and recommendations, with the health and safety of students, staff, and families at the forefront of our decision-making. As conditions change, adjustments to our plan will be made accordingly.
As part of the fall 2020 Back-to-School district planning efforts, school re-entry teams will be identifying school-specific needs and logistics for fall 2020 throughout July 2020. School-specific logistics will be posted on each school's School Community page in early August.
Guidance from State
On Thursday, June 25, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released their initial Return to School Guidance for schools reopening this fall (see Guidance document below). The initial guidance prioritizes the opportunity for in-person learning, with comprehensive health and safety requirements. A summary of the guidance is available in this press release. DESE continues to offer additional guidance as districts plan for an appropriate return to teaching and learning this fall.
