Academics
Somerville Public Schools provides a rigorous, engaging academic experience that prepares all students for success. Our curriculum is grounded in high standards and research-based practices, building strong foundational skills while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world application.
In core subjects, students follow a clear progression of learning. Mathematics emphasizes understanding and application, while English Language Arts builds strong literacy skills and critical thinking. Science and engineering promote inquiry and hands-on learning, and Social Studies helps students become informed, engaged citizens.
Students also benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including the arts, health and physical education, world languages, and library/media instruction. Social Emotional Learning is integrated throughout, supporting students’ well-being and development. Together, these experiences reflect our commitment to educating the whole child and preparing every student for future success.

RESEARCH INQUIRIES
Somerville Public Schools accepts research requests during specific windows of time. Research requests must be submitted through this application form. Please understand that Somerville Public Schools is very selective when reviewing all research proposals. Research projects are more likely to move forward when they align with district priorities and have the potential to contribute valuable information that can improve our practices. We also work to ensure that any approved research places minimal demands on staff and students, and does not interfere with instructional time.
